Funny you mention this. I posted something a few days ago on a buddy's site: It was in relation to Alicia Keys recent weight loss. Read along man...

- You're right about that luv. I'm telling you now. Give Mo'Nique another few years, and she'll be doing the same thing. I hope not, but how can she not. She can say all of that "skinny women are evil" thing, but inside, I bet she wishes she were small. I think what she's doing with "Fat Chance" is fantastic. But the truth of the matter is society is inundating you ladies with stupid thoughts of "small is better" and "large is bad" and these stars go topsy turvy in trying to perfect that "per-fect look." Stapling their stomachs, sucking fat out of their bodies, suffering bulimia? TV, movies, everything promotes small.

Take a good look at some of these emaciated or eating disorder stars; Lindsay Lohan, the Olsen girl, Whitney (maybe drug-induced, but who knows), Jamie-Lynn Sigler (Meadow from the Sopranos), Paula Abdul even Oprah Winfrew had her bout with this. Unless the weight is detrimental to your health, then that's different. Think Missy Elliot, Kelly Price and the late Luther Vandross.

I'm not surprised that Alicia did what she did. I'm sure she read the tabloids, the magazines, the e-zines and coverage of the BET awards, and many women came down on her pretty hard about her size the way she was packing into those jeans that night. To guys, it looked pretty appetizing, I know it did to me. I love the flab.

But to a woman, and many women do this. When another woman walks into a club, into a party, into a room, anywhere other women are congregating, it becomes almost an effort in utility to look good to your peers. First thing they notice, the weight. And it's deconstructing a woman, by a woman from there. Next comes the hair, the clothes, the jewelry, etc...

I hate it that she's done the weight loss thing, because she looked fantastic with the weight. But I know I'm a lover of plus sized women, so my mentality is a bit biased. Okay, its alot biased-lol. But I can't stress enough, I bet she relented under what must have been tremendous pressure for her to do so. Its hard being a woman ladies. You have to fight the fight on 2 fronts. Look good for a man, and look good enough to get the admiration from your peers. So its not a knock on any woman to look good. Go for it. I only question the methods and the consequences some of you go through just to get there, and if it's all worth it.

Oh well.... at least Alicia's still pretty, can blow a pretty decent note and work that piano...
